Verge, originally launched in 2014 as DogecoinDark, aims to provide a private cryptocurrency solution by creating a blockchain where transactions are untraceable. The project utilizes multiple anonymity networks, including TOR and I2P, to obfuscate user IP addresses. Verge’s architecture incorporates the Wraith Protocol, allowing users to switch between private and public ledgers seamlessly. This feature enhances user anonymity and transaction privacy. The platform supports a transaction speed of around five seconds using Simple Payment Verification technology.

As an open-source project, Verge has a global team of developers and emphasizes community involvement in its development direction. The mining process employs five different Proof-of-Work algorithms—Lyra2rev2, Scrypt, X17, blake2s, and myr-groestl—providing a range of options for miners. This diversity aims to foster inclusivity and adaptability within the network.
