Storj is an open-source platform designed for end-to-end encrypted cloud storage, utilizing a peer-to-peer network rather than traditional data centers. Founded in 2014 by Shawn Wilkinson and co-founder John Quinn, Storj Labs Inc. is based in Atlanta, Georgia. The company conducted an initial coin offering in May 2017, raising approximately $30 million, and allowed existing SJCX token holders to convert their tokens to the new STORJ tokens.
Storj has pre-mined its entire supply of STORJ tokens, meaning no new tokens can be created through mining. Users can acquire STORJ tokens by participating as farmers within the network or by trading on cryptocurrency exchanges. The platform aims to provide secure and efficient file storage solutions as an alternative to established cloud storage services. Ben Golub currently serves as the Executive Chairman and Interim CEO after taking over from Shawn Wilkinson in 2018.
