Maza serves as the official reserve currency for the Oglala Lakota Nation, located in North and South Dakota. The Lakota Nation has pursued recognition as a fully independent nation since the 1970s, functioning as a semi-autonomous Indian reservation in South Dakota.
Developed by Payu Harris, who is a Native American activist and web developer, Maza was created to raise awareness of the Oglala Lakota Nation's quest for sovereignty. It is a fork of Zetacoin and was launched on February 7, 2014.
