Energy Web Token

Energy Web Token (EWT) is the native utility token used to secure and operate the Energy Web decentralized technology platform. The platform includes Energy Web X, a public and permissionless nominated proof-of-stake blockchain, and a Verified Compute Cloud for off-chain business logic computation supporting energy and sustainability markets. EWT circulates as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, used as a settlement and custody environment. The original proof-of-authority network, Energy Web Chain (EWC), where EWT was first launched in June 2019, remains operational for archival and backward-compatibility only.

A validator-governed, bidirectional bridge connects Ethereum and Energy Web X, described as preserving total supply and utility while enabling use across both networks. The bridge supports cross-network functionality between the ERC-20 representation on Ethereum and the Energy Web X environment. The description also states that EWT is included in the European Securities and Markets Authority register in November 2025 to ensure MiCA compliance.
