Algorand is a decentralized digital currency and smart contract platform founded in 2017 by Silvio Micali. It employs a variation of Proof-of-Stake known as Pure PoS to secure its network and achieve consensus for block production. The platform supports the development of decentralized applications using widely used programming languages, including Python.
The protocol enables a range of applications, such as payment systems, digital identity solutions, supply-chain tracking, and financial services. Its architecture allows for the tokenization of assets and the creation of smart contracts, catering to both retail users needing basic transaction functionalities and enterprises that require more complex blockchain solutions.
Risk Report
Cryptocurrency carries risk. Every project listed on this site, regardless of its score, operates in a volatile and largely unregulated market. Tokens can lose most or all of their value. A high score reflects lower structural risk based on the data we can measure. It does not mean a project is safe, that the price will hold, or that losses are unlikely. Always research independently and never commit money you cannot afford to lose.
Track record score 72 out of 100. Algorand has a commendable history with 7.3 years of operation, reflecting a level of stability in the blockchain ecosystem. While it has recorded one regulatory action, it boasts zero historical incidents. However, two additional concerns have been raised during the research, contributing to a somewhat lower score in this area. Overall, the project maintains a solid performance within its operational time frame, warranting a "BBB" rating.
Economic design score 100 out of 100. Algorand receives a perfect score in economic design, indicating a robust framework for its supply. With a hard cap of 10 billion coins and 100% of its total supply currently circulating, the project demonstrates a well-defined economic model. This strong score reflects a strategic approach to asset management, ensuring clarity and confidence in its economic structure.
Developer health score 53 out of 100. Algorand's developer health is moderate, with 1,426 GitHub stars and 526 forks, suggesting a good level of community engagement. The recent commit cadence, with 13 commits in the last four weeks, indicates ongoing development activity. However, the relatively lower number of contributors adds a layer of concern, resulting in a "CCC" rating. Continuous improvement in developer involvement would enhance the project's vitality.
Network security score 73 out of 100. With a score of 73, Algorand reflects a secure network infrastructure. The blockchain has been operational for over 7 years without any historical incidents on record, indicating a solid security track record. However, its market cap of approximately $1.12 billion results in a lower economic security score. The overall network security remains commendable, contributing positively to its overall standing.
Social behavior score 52 out of 100. Algorand's social behavior score indicates moderate engagement levels. It maintains a verified presence on Twitter and other platforms, yet audience data is limited for some accounts. The sentiment analysis reveals a positive outlook with 70% of social mentions being favorable. However, the scoring indicates the presence of two additional red flags, which somewhat adjusts its overall perception in the social space, leading to a "CCC" rating.
Adoption and liquidity score 53 out of 100. Algorand shows a balanced performance with a daily trading volume of approximately $64 million and 62 centralized exchange listings, a significant number of which have high trust ratings. However, its moderate liquidity score also indicates room for improvement, particularly in the context of daily trading activity. The market cap tier suggests that while there is some adoption, enhancements in liquidity could further strengthen the project's position.
Inherent risks are present in the cryptocurrency space, including regulatory uncertainties, market volatility, and technological challenges. While Algorand demonstrates stability and a solid economic framework, potential investors should remain cautious and conduct thorough research, particularly due to the identified regulatory actions and additional concerns noted during the analysis.
