Overview
ZERA is a zero-knowledge privacy protocol on Solana developed by Zera Labs and led and founded by Hayden "Dax" Porter. It supports shielded balances, private transfers, and offline-capable peer-to-peer exchange for existing crypto assets such as USDC, USDT, and SOL. Users deposit supported assets directly into the protocol and receive cryptographic notes, which can be transferred privately and later withdrawn back to the same underlying asset in a non-custodial design where users retain control of keys and notes.
At the protocol level, privacy is implemented using Pedersen commitments and nullifiers to prevent double-spends, and zk-SNARKs such as Groth16 for succinct transaction proofs that do not reveal senders, receivers, or amounts. Notes use a unified anonymity set, and optional relayers can submit withdrawals to reduce linkability between network activity and identity. The ZERA token is described as a value-accrual token tied to protocol activity through programmatic burns triggered by a fraction of protocol volume, with deposits and reserve-level accounting remaining transparent.
