What is Optimism?

Optimism is a network of blockchains known as the Superchain, utilizing the open-source OP Stack framework. The OP Mainnet was the first implementation, with additional chains such as Base, Unichain, Ink, and World Chain also operating on this stack. The OP Stack serves as a framework for Ethereum Layer 2 chains, contributing to a significant portion of Layer 2 activity.

Each chain within the Superchain adheres to a revenue-sharing model where 2.5% of total chain revenue or 15% of on-chain profit is directed back to Optimism. Governance is managed by OP token holders, who influence protocol upgrades and funding decisions, thereby fostering economic alignment and sustainability within the ecosystem.
