What is Flare?

Flare is an EVM-based Layer 1 blockchain aimed at enabling developers to create applications that interact with other blockchains and the internet. Its architecture is designed to provide decentralized access to accurate data through its native interoperability protocols, such as the State Connector and the Flare Time Series Oracle, which facilitate secure and scalable data transfer from off-chain sources.

The native token of Flare, FLR, serves multiple functions, including payments and transaction fees, which help to prevent spam attacks on the network. FLR can also be wrapped into an ERC-20 token variant known as WFLR. This wrapped version can be used for delegating to data providers and participating in governance, while still being compatible with other EVM-compatible applications and smart contracts on the Flare network.
